Packing food sticks

PWR was challenged by an International Pet Food producer to develop a solution to replace an existing system handling the picking and placing of extruded sticks.

They aim was to increase the output to 950 kg/per hour and improve overall operational efficiency. In addition, the machine had to be flexible to pick and place alternative products with different product specifications.  

Our solution, made up of 10 PWR robots divided equally over 2 independent pick and place cells, delivered a flexible robotic packaging system for picking and placing of extruded sticks. Flexibility to manage the range of product shapes, sizes and pack counts with one machine and no change over was a demand from the customer. The maximum performance of this robotic packaging solutions is 1,000 sticks per minute, up to 125 flow wrapped packages of 4 sticks.

Tub loading into cartons

An International Pet Food manufacturer contacted PWR and challenged us to support them with a pick and place solution for placing a diverse range of pet food tubs into mixed flavour cartons at one of their production sites in Germany. 

Directly coupled to the process line, it was a prerequisite that the solution achieved the correct product mix in each carton at the line speed and fit into the existing factory to deliver an optimised total production solution.  

Our solution, made up of 12 PWR robots, delivered a flexible robotic packaging system for picking and placing a variety of pet food tub products into mixed flavoured cartons. With minimum adjustments to the production site, we were able to design a complete solution that handles two different types of tub designs and integrated the carton erectors seamlessly. The maximum performance of this robotic packaging solutions is 840 tubs per minute.
