Packing 12,000 pancakes an hour

Yummy Bakery, a family owned leader in the Belgium bakery industry, challenged PWR to develop an automation solution that ensures their pancakes are packed in line with specifications and with minimum errors. The solution also needed to be fully integrated with the thermoformer machine.

“I was impressed with the expertise and know-how of the PWR team throughout the entire process. They delivered a top notch robotic solution that handles our pancakes fast and gently. Their intuitive HMI works hands on and logically. And if help is needed, it is assuring to know they are just a call away.”

Loading biscuits into trays

Dean’s is a family-owned bakery based outside of Aberdeen, Scotland. The company is best known for their shortbread and supply major UK supermarkets, gifting and food service sectors, they also have a growing presence in export.

After investing in their first small robot for the bakery in 2011, and with this proving to be a success, in 2015 Dean’s decided to explore other areas where automation could be beneficial on a much larger scale. After some research and an initial shortlisting process, PWR were chosen to deliver the solution.

“We chose PWR to deliver this solution after careful consideration of all our options. As an SME, the investment we were considering putting down on the project was by no means insignificant for us so we had to be sure we were recruiting a supplier who could also be a trusted partner. We chose PWR as the team were so understanding of our needs and really communicated with integrity throughout the whole project.”

Packing chocolate thins

A well-known chocolate producer challenged PWR to upgrade them to an automated high speed packaging process from a previous hand packing operation. Our solution packs 1,200 products per minute by using single and stack picking technologies, taking product from flat on the product conveyor to on edge in the packaging.

“As we didn’t have the footprint for a traditional flex picker solution, we needed a compact solution that could cope with high volumes. The brilliant solution from PWR’s engineers allows us to handle 1200 products/min in just a few meters of floor space”
